Dr. Pia Sommerkamp is a Postdoctoral Fellow, supported by the Peter and Traudl Engelhorn foundation, in the group of Dr. Matthias Hentze at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) in Heidelberg. Her research focuses on RNA-protein interactions and their functional role in stem cell self-renewal and differentiation. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Molecular Biomedicine from the University of Bonn and a Master of Science degree in Molecular Biosciences, Major Cancer Biology from the University of Heidelberg. In 2016, she joined the lab of Dr. Andreas Trumpp at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) as a Ph.D. student and studied lncRNAs in hematopoietic stem cells and the role of alternative polyadenylation in hematopoiesis. After receiving her Ph.D. in 2019, for which she was awarded the Wilma Moser-Prize, her work focused on molecular profiling and functional analysis of novel hematopoietic progenitor subsets by combining technologies such as RNA-seq, SiC-RNA-seq and mouse bone marrow transplantation. In addition, Dr. Pia Sommerkamp is an active member of the International Society for Experimental Hematology (ISEH) New Investigators Committee.
