Dr. Yang Zhang is a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Johns Hopkins University with a background in engineering, computation, and neuroscience. He obtained his PhD from Tsinghua University in China. During his PhD training, he worked vigorously in researching human speech, music, and auditory emotion processing in clinical epilepsy patients with intracranial electrodes implanted using engineering methods. He was able to collect and analyze diffusion magnetic resonance imaging (dMRI) data, resting-state magnetic resonance imaging (rsMRI) data, functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) data, electrophysiology data, and electric brain stimulation data of each patient. In his postdoctoral research, he is currently working with a non-human primate model (marmosets) using his expertise in MRI, electrophysiology, and electric stimulation. His current project focuses on studying the neural basis for vocal perception and production using MRI-guided calcium imaging and multi-channel electrophysiology.
