Dr. Magdalena Maj received a PhD in Cell Biology at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna, Austria. Her thesis work focused on studying a novel link between type 2 diabetes mellitus and Alzheimer’s disease. As a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Houston MD Anderson Cancer Center, she studied molecular mechanisms of chemotherapy-induced neurotoxicities, such as peripheral neuropathy and chemo brain.
Since 2017, she has been a faculty member of the Biological Sciences Department at California Polytechnic State University. Her research focuses on the impact of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) on brain health. Her team works with a large animal model of pediatric NAFLD and utilizes a combination of biochemical, imaging, metabolomics, transcriptomics, and behavioral analyses. This translational research can contribute to the knowledge of dietary interventions in the pediatric and adult populations with NAFLD, obesity, and metabolic syndrome.
