Dr. Avantika Dhabaria is the assistant director of the proteomics laboratory in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Pharmacology at NYU Langone Health. Dr. Dhabaria has extensive experience in protein analytical chemistry with emphasis on mass spectrometry (MS) based proteomics. She received her PhD in Chemistry from the University of Maryland in Dr. Catherine Fenselau’s lab, where her research was focused on the analysis of intact proteins in complex mixtures. She gained additional experience in Dr. Alex Kentsis’s lab at Memorial-Sloan Kettering Cancer Center where she did her post-doctoral fellowship. Her work in the Kentsis lab was focused on the method development for the proteogenomic analysis of mutant leukemia cells. In her current position, she works on projects that involve identification and quantification of proteins related to various disease pathways. Her research involves establishing novel methods for sample preparation, mass spectrometric experimental design and data analysis for MS-based quantitative label and label-free proteomic studies. Additionally, she works with specialists in the field of infectious disease to study the secretomes of different strains of Staphylococcus aureus and Mycobacterium Tuberculosis to identify virulence factors and to develop better drug or vaccine targets.
