Hwee Goon Tay is an Assistant Professor at the Centre for Vision Research at DUKE-NUS (National University of Singapore) Medical School. She received an undergraduate degree from the University of New South Wales (Australia) and a PhD from the National University of Singapore. Dr. Tay had post-doctoral training at Upstate Medical University (NY, USA) and subsequently at DUKE-NUS Medical School, where she became a co-inventor for a patented method in laminin-based photoreceptor differentiation. During this period, her group and collaborators found that photoreceptor laminin could drive the differentiation of pluripotent human stem cells to photoreceptor progenitors that partially restore retina function in pre-clinical animal models. Her group is committed to advancing this innovation towards clinical trial and making significant contributions to translational scientific research in the area of regenerative medicine for retinal diseases
