Dr. Alexander Widiapradja received his Bachelor of Science with Honours from the University of Queensland, Australia in 2009. He then obtained a PhD in Biomedical Science from the University of Queensland in 2014. In 2015 he joined the laboratory of Dr. Barbara Rolfe at the Australian Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology (AIBN) as a postdoctoral fellow studying the role of complement system in melanoma tumorigenesis. From there, in 2016 he joined the research team of Associate Professor Scott Levick at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) in the United States as an MCW Presidential Post-doctoral Scholar. In 2017, Dr. Widiapradja relocated to the Kolling Institute for Medical Research at the University of Sydney/Royal North Shore Hospital in Australia to take a position as Research Fellow. Dr. Widiapradja’s research interests include understanding the contributions of the neuropeptide substance P, as well as the orphan nuclear receptor Nr4a1, in cardiovascular biology. Of particular interest is how these effector molecules interact with the immune system, including macrophages and mast cells, to induce cardiac fibrosis.
