Dr. Wang is a faculty at Zhejiang Normal University, China. Her research focuses on leveraging advanced molecular and genetic tools to explore the changes in plant cell wall metabolism that underpin plant development and adaptation to environmental stress. Eventually, she hopes to develop crop cultivars with improved quality and stress tolerance. She completed her PhD at the University of Nottingham in the UK, in plant science. Her dissertation was titled ‘Modulation of tomato fruit texture by knocking out cell wall structure-related genes using CRISPR/Cas9’. Upon graduation, she worked at the University of Florida for one year and then moved to Cornell University for a postdoctoral associate position. Her work at Cornell elucidates the mechanisms of meiotic recombination in maize.
She has so far authored more than 23 scientific articles (11 as first author), which have together gathered more than 1000 citations as of May 2023. Publications from her work include several major research articles and several reviews that have been very well cited and a high-profile review paper on ‘Revisiting the role of pectin in fruit softening’ that has also attracted substantial attention, being cited more than 300 times in just 6 years”. She currently serves as an associate editor for The Journal of Horticultural Science & Biotechnology and has peer-reviewed scientific work for scientific journals, including The Journal of Horticultural Science & Biotechnology, Plant Biology, BMC Genomics, Scientific Reports, Biology.
