Patricia Páez-González, PhD, is a Professor of Cell Biology at the University of Malaga. She obtained her PhD in Biology from the University of Malaga in Spain, where she studied the aetiology of congenital hydrocephalus, focusing on the involvement of ependyma. As Research Assistant at Duke University and Duke-Medical Center, she focused on the manipulation of neural stem cells and the role of neural stem cells in traumatic brain injury and neurodegenerative diseases. In 2015 she returned to Spain as a “Ramon y Cajal” distinguished researcher. Since 2015 she has been Co-PI in the Research Group “Research for Hydrocephalus” at the University of Malaga. Her work has provided key insights into the role of ependyma in the aetiology of hydrocephalus and the modulation of the neurogenic niche. Ultimately, she aims to develop regenerative treatments using different stem cells to treat newborns with intraventricular haemorrhage and neonatal hydrocephalus.
