Dr Patricia Coltri is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Cell and Developmental Biology at Universidade de São Paulo, in Brazil. Research at her lab is focused on the study of pre-mRNA splicing regulation in eukaryotes. Pre-mRNA splicing is an essential process in eukaryotic gene expression that allows for removal of introns and exon ligation. This process is catalyzed by the spliceosome, a macromolecular machinery composed of proteins and RNAs. Different concentration of regulatory proteins might shape the splicing landscape of the cells, leading to different patterns of gene expression. After finishing her undergraduate studies in Biology and graduating in Genetics and Molecular Biology at Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Brazil, she did a pos-doc with Melissa Jurica at Univerisity of California, Santa Cruz in 2009, finally, finishing her post-doc work with Carla Oliveira at Universidade de São Paulo in 2012.
