Stress reactions are natural responses of the body to external factors. However, when exposed to a solid and inappropriate stimulus or negative factor, stress can escalate into distress and maladaptation, resulting in long-term detrimental effects on the body, including disease and mortality.

The primary objective of this Methods Collection is to comprehensively characterize the body's responses to stress in cases of traumatic injury and severe psychological trauma. By doing so, we aim to improve the effectiveness of interventions that correct stress reactions, ultimately preventing maladaptation. Furthermore, this Methods Collection seeks to uncover novel pathophysiological mechanisms that contribute to distress syndrome development.

The topics covered in this collection include but are not limited to:

• Biochemical analysis of brain neuropeptides during stress

• Behavioral and memory changes in animals exposed to stress simulation

• Physiological state of the human body during surgical stress

• The relationship between post-traumatic stress disorder and maladaptation

• The role of depression in the development of maladaptation

• Pathophysiological mechanisms involved in maladaptation development

• Innovative methods for studying stress reactions, adaptation, and maladaptation.
