Affiliation: VA Boston; Boston University

Dr. Hisey received her PhD in Neurobiology in 2017 from Duke University studying motor learning in songbirds in the lab of Richard Mooney. After a brief postdoctoral fellowship in the lab of Scott Soderling, also at Duke, she joined Kerry Ressler’s lab at McLean Hospital/ Harvard Medical School where she examined neural circuits underlying fear responding in fear conditioning and social defeat models. She began her own laboratory at VA Boston/Boston University in the summer of 2023. Dr. Hisey is interested in how early-life trauma affects adult brain circuits. She uses intersectional chemo- and optogenetic methods and in vivo calcium imaging in a novel mouse model of early-life trauma to examine circuit-level consequences of past trauma on the adult brain.
