Samarjit (Sam) Das is an associate professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. His laboratory works extensively on the functional aspects of non-coding RNA in health and disease. The laboratory is working on basic science research, such as determining the molecular mechanisms by which a non-coding RNA can alter cellular function, and translational research, such as identifying non-coding RNAs as early diagnostic or prognostic biomarkers for a specific disease. Dr. Das has already developed several patented technologies to identify circulating non-coding RNAs inside small extracellular vesicles (sEVs) or exosomes as an early diagnostic biomarker for the pathogenesis of multiple diseases, such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and COVID-19. Dr. Das is also interested in using non-coding RNA as a therapeutic approach for many of these diseases.
