Dr. Edwin Wan received his Ph.D. in Cancer Biology at City University of Hong Kong in 2007. After completing his post-doctoral training in Immunology at Duke University Medical Center and the National Institutes of Health at the United States, he established his laboratory at West Virginia University School of Medicine focusing on neuroimmunology research. The overarching goal of his team is to identify soluble mediators (e.g., cytokines, chemokines, neurotrophic factors) and their downstream molecular pathways that determine the beneficial versus detrimental effect of mononuclear myeloid cells (monocytes, macrophages, microglia) during the progression of neurological diseases such as multiple sclerosis and ischemic stroke. His lab uses genetically modified mouse strains, in vivo models, advanced imaging techniques, next generation sequencing, and various cellular assays to address their scientific questions.
