Wenfu Ma received his PhD degree in 2011 from the Institute of Biomedical Research at Fudan University in Shanghai, China. After completing his PhD, he moved to the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in the United States for postdoctoral training from 2011 to 2018. In 2018, Ma joined the School of Life Sciences at the Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, where he is currently based. His research interests focus on two main areas: (1) Mechanistic investigation of how Chinese medicine compounds are metabolized by enzymes in the human gut microbiota. (2) Structural and functional studies of drug-target discovery, particularly among traditional Chinese medicine compounds.
