Dr. Walid Dachraoui is a senior scientist at Empa––Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology in Dübendorf, Switzerland. He earned his doctoral degree in physics from the University of Antwerp in 2012, where he was part of the Electron Microscopy for Materials Science group (EMAT). Following his PhD, Dr Dachraoui conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Aix-Marseille's Interdisciplinary Nanoscience Center of Marseille (CINaM) and later at the University of Paris Diderot in the Laboratory of Materials and Quantum Phenomena (MPQ). He subsequently joined the Tarascon group at the University of Picardie Jules Verne (LRCS and RS2E) before moving to the electron microscopy team at Philips University in Marburg.

Dr. Dachraoui's research interests encompass a wide range of topics within electron microscopy and materials science. These include atomic resolution, low-voltage electron microscopy, and in-situ/operando electron microscopy. His work focuses on imaging the growth and degradation of nanomaterials at the atomic level in liquid mode and visualizing battery materials (cathode, anode, and electrolyte) and their interfaces at atomic resolution in real time during charge and discharge cycles. Dr. Dachraoui has published extensively on the atomic structure of perovskite-based materials, in-situ liquid TEM, nanomaterials, in-situ electrochemical TEM, battery materials, and materials for solar cells.
