Dr. Sandra Marcia Muxel earned a bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Science at University of Londrina in Brazil. She earned her PhD in Immunology at the University of São Paulo in Brazil and studied the activation of T and NKT lymphocytes during experimental infection with Plasmodium. During her postdoctoral studies at University of São Paulo’s Department of Physiology in the Institute of Bioscience, she studied the function of arginine metabolism and its implications in the interaction of Leishmania-host. Now, Dr. Muxel’s research is focused on exploring the facets of macrophage activation during Leishmania infection and exploring the regulation of gene expression by post-transcriptional levels, via microRNAs and lncRNAs, and immunometabolism.
