Paul Bourgine studied Biotechnology at the Ecole Superieure de Biotechnologie de Strasbourg (France), from which he obtained his engineering diploma in 2010 after a stay at the Ragon Institute of Harvard, MIT and MGH (Boston, USA). He subsequently moved to Switzerland and received his PhD in Cell Biology from the University of Basel in 2013. After a post-doc at the Biosystem department of the ETH-Zürich, Paul was appointed Assistant Professor at Lund University, Sweden. Paul is the coordinator of the Master program on stem cells and regenerative medicine at the faculty of medicine, but also leads the Cell, Tissue & Organ engineering laboratory. Paul´s laboratory is part of the Wallenberg Centre for Molecular Medicine and the Lund Stem Cell Centre. Paul´s research aims at studying Bone as an organ system, understanding from a fundamental perspective how its constitutive tissues (bone, cartilage, bone marrow, vasculature) form, interact and regenerate. By exploiting innovative in vitro/in vivo models of human Bone, his lab ambitions at compiling human-specific knowledge that could help the design of regenerative therapies. Paul´s research currently encompasses the bioprinting of bioreactor systems for the design of 3D bone marrow niches, the generation of humanized ossicles as advanced hematopoietic model, and the engineering of osteoinductive biological matrices for skeletal repair.
