Dr. Despoina Mademtzoglou is currently a project manager on a large translational team led by Prof. Frederic Relaix and affiliated with the Mondor Biomedical Research Institute and the University Paris-Est Creteil (France). Since 2008, Dr. Mademtzoglou has conducted and led research projects ranging from toxicology and clinical trials to stem cell-based regeneration, in different labs in Greece (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki), Spain (Complutense University of Madrid), Germany (Free University of Berlin), and France (Pierre and Marie Curie University, University Paris-Est Creteil). She started tackling questions of tissue injury and repair during her PhD in MyoGrad, an international PhD program that provided a rich experience and strong background on myology. Her most recent focus is on the stem cells, regeneration, and dystrophy of skeletal muscle tissue, topics on which she regularly writes grant applications, literature reviews, and conference proposals. During her PhD, post-doc, and project management positions, Dr. Mademtzoglou witnessed the evolution of the muscle field on conceptual and methodological levels, but also the frequent lack of expertise exchange between remote research groups. Driven by these views, she is developing the present Methods Collection in order to reflect the current state of the field in an accessible way.
