Dr. Filipe Duarte earned his PhD in Biosciences from the University of Coimbra, Portugal, in 2012. He is currently an assistant researcher at CNC-Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology and an invited assistant professor in the Department of Life Sciences at the University of Coimbra. His primary research focus is on mitochondrial dynamics in synaptic plasticity and epileptogenesis.
Dr. Duarte's expertise also spans the biotech industry. From 2016 to 2018, he worked as an R&D Scientist at Exogenus Therapeutics, concentrating on the development of exosome-based therapies.
Since 2018, he has dedicated his efforts to studying neuronal signaling as part of the Neuronal Signaling research group at CNC. In 2021, he established his independent research line examining the role of mitochondria in synaptic regulation. Alongside his research pursuits, Dr. Duarte remains committed to education, teaching courses in biochemistry and cellular and molecular biology at the University of Coimbra.
