Paul M. Kim, MD, PhD, is an assistant professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine (JHU SOM). He received his medical and doctoral degrees from JHU SOM and completed his psychiatry residency at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. As a clinician-scientist, he studies the role of neuroinflammation in psychiatric and neurologic disorders. Dr. Kim has identified that modulating PKC activity in innate immune cells of the central nervous system (CNS) activates a regenerative, anti-inflammatory phenotype that promotes CNS repair and functional recovery. He also currently serves as the medical director of the Johns Hopkins Esketamine Clinic and has a research interest in the underlying molecular mechanism of esketamine in alleviating depression and suicidal ideation, as well as its potential anti-inflammatory properties.
