J. Ignacio Gutiérrez, PhD, is an instructor in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine in New York. He completed his undergraduate and master’s training at Universidad Andrés Bello in Santiago, Chile, and earned his PhD in molecular and cell biology from the University of California, Berkeley. His doctoral work focused on the quantitative dissection of the SWI/SNF chromatin remodeling complex and its role in pH‑dependent transcriptional reprogramming, as well as on the macromolecular organization of protein complexes in living cells.
Dr. Gutiérrez’s postdoctoral and current research investigates how mesoscale nuclear organization governs the relationship between genomic instability and cellular aging. Focusing on the nucleolus and other dynamic protein condensates, he studies how age‑associated reorganization of these compartments alters genome maintenance processes and accelerates cellular decline.
