Dr. Libo Tan is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Human Nutrition at the University of Alabama. Dr. Tan's research focuses on the bioavailability, pharmacokinetics, and biological activities of micronutrients and phytochemicals, particularly those associated with neonatal development, adipose tissue metabolism, or glucose homeostasis. Using in vivo and in vitro models, Dr. Tan’s research group investigates how various physiological or diseased states affect the pharmacokinetics and/or bioeffects of those bioactive compounds. They are also interested in exploring techniques, such as nano-encapsulation, that may improve the bioavailability and optimize the bioactivities of phytochemicals. Dr. Tan earned her PhD in Nutritional Sciences at the Pennsylvania State University in 2013, and Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences at Shandong University, China in 2007.
