Dr. Caputo received his BSc and MSc from the University of Bologna. He then moved to the Max Planck Institute for Lung and Heart Research in Bad Nauheim, Germany, where he earned his PhD under the supervision of Dr. Gergana Dobreva. During his doctoral studies, he investigated the epigenetic and three-dimensional regulation of chromatin architecture in second heart field cardiac progenitor cells.

He is currently a staff scientist in Dr. Puri’s laboratory at SBP, where he uses a wide array of epigenetic tools to study the role of the epigenetic landscape and three-dimensional genome organization during embryonic development and in the etiology of skeletal muscle disorders. He has also developed differentiation protocols to generate disease models in vitro and to produce perinatal skeletal muscle progenitor cells for cell therapy applications.
