Dr. Aarti Tarkar is a Experimental Medicine Investigator at GlaxoSmithKline, where she works on clinical biomarker identification for the oncology assets. She has preclinical discovery experience in Neuroscience, Cardiovascular, Oncology, Hematology, and Immuno-oncology therapy areas. She has over 10 years of research experience that relates to molecular biology, genetics, and bioinformatics. Aarti is a PhD-trained molecular and developmental neuroscientist with postdoctoral experience in cardiovascular biology. She obtained her PhD in Physiology and Neurobiology from the University of Connecticut where she identified a novel role for a candidate dyslexia susceptibility gene, DYX1C1 in Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia, a rare human disease characterized by chronic respiratory infections, infertility, and defective left-right symmetry. Her work helped in better understanding of the assembly of ciliary dyneins in motile cilia. She is passionate about innovative strategies that will transform the scientific research field, helping better understand these complex human disorders and eventually aiding in identification of novel therapeutic advances.
