Jin Yu, PhD is an Assistant Professor at Department of Physics & Astronomy at University of California (UC), Irvine. Dr Yu has been trained in physics and conducted her research in biophysics. She had a BS and MS from the Department of Physics at Tsinghua University (1998 and 2001), Beijing, China. Later she obtained her PhD (2007) from the Department of Physics at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, US, working with Prof Klaus Schulten in the Theoretical and Computational Biophysics group, in collaboration with a single molecule biophysics lab on DNA junction and helicase projects. After that, Dr Yu received the UC Berkeley Chancellor’s postdoctoral fellowship and conducted research on physical and mathematical modeling of bimolecular machines, such as the viral DNA packaging motor, working with the Prof George Oster and the Prof Carlos Bustamante Lab from University of California, Berkeley (2007-2011). Later she joined the Beijing Computational Science Research Center and worked as a principal investigator in the Complex System Research Division (2012-2019). Dr Yu joined the Department of Physics & Astronomy at UC Irvine in the summer of 2019, where she continued her interdisciplinary researches on Computational Biophysics, with a focus on protein machinery in genetic and epigenetic regulation. She also has a joint appointment with the Department of Chemistry, and an affiliation with the NSF-Simons Center of Multiscale Cell Fate Research, at UC Irvine.
