Dr. Jan-Erik Hoffmann is head of the Protein Chemistry Facility at the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Physiology in Dortmund, Germany. In this capacity he assists research groups at the institute with high-throughput cloning, protein expression and purification from various hosts, as well as protein engineering. For this he provides several state-of-the-art protein labeling methods.
Before becoming facility head, Dr. Hoffmann worked as a postdoc at EMBL Heidelberg and OHSU Portland in the lab of Prof Carsten Schultz where he helped to develop novel non-canonical amino acids for click chemistry and protein crosslinking. During his PhD at MPI Dortmund he studied the intracellular interaction network of proteins belonging to cell-matrix adhesion complexes, using advanced microscopy methods.
