Audit Procedures

Audit procedures are the methods auditors use to obtain and evaluate evidence about an organization’s financial records, controls, and reported results. In accounting audits, procedures such as inspection, observation, confirmation, recalculation, analytical procedures, and sampling test management assertions by comparing documents, transactions, balances, and trends with expectations or independent evidence. Auditors select and combine procedures according to assessed risks, materiality, and the reliability of available evidence, documenting results to support professional judgments. These procedures help identify material misstatements, evaluate whether financial statements fairly present an entity’s position, and provide a defensible basis for an audit opinion and recommendations for control improvement.
