Control Activities

Control activities are the policies, procedures, and actions organizations use to manage risk and support reliable financial reporting. In accounting, they operate through mechanisms such as authorization and approval, segregation of duties, reconciliations, access controls, and independent reviews, which help prevent or detect errors and irregularities. These activities are designed within an organization’s internal control system and may be manual, automated, or a combination of both. Effective control activities protect assets, improve the accuracy and completeness of accounting records, support compliance with laws and policies, and provide evidence for internal and external audits.
