Accurate Saccades

Accurate saccades are rapid, goal-directed eye movements that place the fovea on a visual target, enabling clear perception and revealing how behavior links sensory information with motor control. The brain estimates the target’s retinal position and generates a precisely timed motor command; brainstem burst neurons activate the extraocular muscles, while cerebellar circuits calibrate movement amplitude to reduce positional error. In behavioral research, accurate saccades help measure visual attention, sensorimotor coordination, learning, and decision-making. Their timing and endpoint precision also provide sensitive indicators of neural function and impairments affecting eye movements, cognition, or motor control.

Ammonia is an important physiologic metabolite relevant to various disease and wellness states. It is also a difficult molecule to measure in breath, which demands particular precautions be taken to obtain accurate results. Not all factors influencing ammonia are known, but progress can be difficult without accounting for these factors.
