Gait Rehabilitation

Gait rehabilitation is a structured process that helps individuals improve the safety, efficiency, and coordination of walking after injury, illness, or functional decline. It works through repeated, task-specific practice that targets movement patterns, balance, muscle control, and adaptation to changing conditions, often supported by therapist feedback or assistive devices. As a behavioral intervention, gait rehabilitation uses observation, practice, and reinforcement to encourage more effective walking strategies and build confidence in daily movement. It is applied in neurological, orthopedic, and age-related care to restore mobility, reduce fall risk, and evaluate how motor behavior changes with training.

The aim was to substantiate optimal use of data collection techniques for Nordic walking gait and posture analysis. Three-dimensional motion capture should be used during short duration analysis (i.e. single gait cycle), while accelerometry should be employed for longer duration analysis (i.e. repeated cycles) like a 6 Minute Walk Test.

This article reports the development of a neuro-rehabilitation approach, "constraint-induced sound therapy (CIST)" for sudden sensorineural hearing loss. The aim of CIST is to prevent maladaptive cortical reorganization by using an enriched acoustic environment. CIST represents a safe, easy, inexpensive, and effective approach to treat sudden sensorineural hearing loss.
