Mental Cutting Test

The Mental Cutting Test is a spatial-visualization assessment that measures how accurately a person can imagine the cross-section created when a three-dimensional object is cut by a plane. During the test, individuals inspect a solid figure and a cutting plane, mentally rotate or transform the object, and select the two-dimensional shape that the cut would produce. Performance reflects aspects of visuospatial reasoning and mental manipulation rather than simple visual recognition. In behavioral research and education, the test supports studies of cognitive differences, spatial ability, learning, and performance in fields such as engineering, architecture, and technical design.
