Three-compartment Apparatus

The three-compartment apparatus is a behavioral testing arena that measures an animal’s movement and preference among three connected chambers. During an assay, the subject moves freely between a neutral center compartment and two side compartments containing distinct social, sensory, or environmental stimuli; researchers quantify chamber entries, time spent, and exploratory activity under controlled conditions. This design supports standardized assessment of social preference, novelty seeking, anxiety-related avoidance, and reward-associated behavior. By separating stimulus presentation from locomotion, the apparatus helps researchers distinguish attraction or avoidance from general activity, strengthening studies of behavior, motivation, learning, and neurological function.

Operant drug self-administration and conditioned place preference (CPP) procedures are expansively used in research to model various components of drug reinforcement, consumption, and addiction in humans. In this report, we combined traditional CPP and self-administration methods as a novel approach to studying drug reinforcement and addiction in rats.

Golgi Apparatus

Properly folded and assembled proteins are selectively packaged into vesicles that exit the ER. Motor proteins transport these vesicles to the Golgi apparatus for adding modifications that make these proteins functional at their destination. The Golgi apparatus is a eukaryotic organelle that has a distinctive ribbon-like appearance. It is a primary sorting and dispatch station for cargo arriving from the ER. Newly arriving vesicles enter the cis face of the Golgi, closest to the ER, and are...

As they leave the Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER), properly folded and assembled proteins are selectively packaged into vesicles. These vesicles are transported by microtubule-based motor proteins and fuse together to form vesicular tubular clusters, subsequently arriving at the Golgi apparatus, a eukaryotic endomembrane organelle that often has a distinctive ribbon-like appearance. The Golgi apparatus is a major sorting and dispatch station for the products of the ER. Newly arriving vesicles enter...

Compartment Models: Two-Compartment Model

The two-compartment model divides the body into central and peripheral compartments to account for varying blood perfusion rates among organs and tissues, affecting drug distribution. The central compartment includes blood and highly perfused tissues with rapid drug distribution, while the peripheral compartment contains tissues with slower drug distribution. After a single IV bolus dose, the drug concentration is high in plasma and low in tissues. The drug distribution between compartments...
