Three-dimensional Recordings

Three-dimensional recordings are methods for capturing the position, movement, and interactions of an organism within three-dimensional space, providing a more complete view of behavior than two-dimensional video alone. In behavioral studies, synchronized cameras or sensors record the subject from multiple viewpoints, while calibration and triangulation reconstruct its location across the x, y, and z axes over time. These measurements allow researchers to quantify locomotion, posture, navigation, social interactions, and spatial patterns, supporting precise comparisons across individuals or experimental conditions. Three-dimensional behavioral data can reveal movement features that are difficult to detect in single-view recordings and strengthen analyses of animal behavior, motor control, and neuroscience.

Dimensional Analysis

Dimensional analysis, also known as the factor label method, is a versatile approach for mathematical operations. The main principle behind this approach is: the units of quantities must be subjected to the same mathematical operations as their associated numbers. This method can be applied to computations ranging from simple unit conversions to more complex and multi-step calculations involving several different quantities and their units. Conversion Factors and Dimensional Analysis The unit...

Electroencephalography-Based Recording Technique to Record the Epileptiform Activity

2025

This video describes the technique for recording the epileptiform activity of rhinal cortex-hippocampus organotypic slices ex vivo using electrophysiology or EEG set-up. This helps to study the dynamics and progression of epileptogenesis and screen potential therapeutic targets to treat epilepsy.

Forebrain Electrophysiological Recording in Larval Zebrafish

A simple method to record extracellular field potentials in the larval zebrafish forebrain is described. The method provides a robust in vivo read-out of seizure-like activity. This technique can be used with genetically modified zebrafish larvae carrying epilepsy-related genes or seizures evoked by administration of convulsant drugs.

Two-Dimensional Gel Electrophoresis

Two-dimensional gel electrophoresis (2DGE) is a technique that can resolve thousands of biomolecules from a mixture. This technique involves two distinct separation methods that have been coupled together: isoelectric focusing (IEF) and sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE). This physically separates compounds across two axes of a gel by their isoelectric points (an electrochemical property) and their molecular weights. The procedure in this video covers the main...

Data Reporting and Recording

2023

Reporting and recording are crucial in data documentation. The timely, thorough, and accurate documentation of facts is essential when recording patient data. Failure to record findings during an assessment or interpretation of a problem will result in loss of information and make the patient document unreliable. The reader is left with general impressions if the information is not specific. A recording is documenting data of the individual's health information in a traceable, secure, and...
