Molybdenum Blue Reaction

The Molybdenum Blue Reaction is a colorimetric analytical method for detecting and quantifying phosphate in chemical and biological samples. Under acidic conditions, phosphate reacts with molybdate to form a phosphomolybdate complex, which is then reduced to produce an intensely blue molybdenum-containing species; the color intensity is measured spectrophotometrically and relates to phosphate concentration. In biochemistry, this assay supports measurement of inorganic phosphate, analysis of phosphate-releasing enzyme reactions, and characterization of metabolic processes involving phosphorylated compounds. Its sensitivity and relatively simple workflow make it useful for routine laboratory analysis and teaching-based investigations of biochemical reactions.

Here, we describe a workflow using laser scanning microscopy to determine the volume electromigrated through a metal line under test. By varying different experimental variables, a multitude of information about electromigration can be acquired. In this work, the length of the onset of electromigration is determined.

The preparation and exfoliation of CaCuSi4O10 and BaCuSi4O10 are described. Upon stirring in hot water, CaCuSi4O10 spontaneously exfoliates into monolayers, whereas BaCuSi4O10 requires ultrasonication in organic solvents. Near infrared (NIR) imaging illustrates the NIR emission properties of these materials, and aqueous dispersions of these nanomaterials are useful for solution processing.

In this reaction, the solid copper is first oxidized by the strong oxidizing agent, nitric acid, to form water and the salt copper nitrate. The copper nitrate quickly dissociates into the ions, copper(2+) and nitrate, in water. The nitrate anions are reduced to NO2 gas, which is confirmed by the presence of reddish-brown fumes. The presence of copper...
