Cfu/ml

CFU/mL (colony-forming units per milliliter) is a microbiological measure of viable, culturable microorganisms in a liquid sample, providing an estimate of population density. To determine it, researchers serially dilute the sample, spread measured volumes on nutrient agar, incubate the plates, and count visible colonies; the colony number and dilution factor are then used to calculate CFU/mL. Because one colony can arise from a single cell or a cell cluster, the value represents colony-forming units rather than an exact cell count. CFU/mL supports analysis of bacterial growth, water and food quality, environmental samples, and antimicrobial effects.
