Dark Field Imaging

Dark-field imaging is a light-microscopy technique that makes transparent, unstained specimens visible by producing bright images against a dark background. It uses oblique illumination so the direct light beam misses the objective, while light scattered by cells, microorganisms, or other structures enters the lens and forms the image. In biology, this contrast helps researchers observe specimen shape, movement, and surface features without dyes that may alter or damage living samples. Dark-field imaging is useful for examining microorganisms, thin cells, and particles in liquid, although its interpretation depends on scattering and generally provides limited internal structural detail.

2013

A technique for performing quantitative three-dimensional (3D) imaging for a range of fluid flows is presented. Using concepts from the area of Light Field Imaging, we reconstruct 3D volumes from arrays of images. Our 3D results span a broad range including velocity fields and multi-phase bubble size distributions.

Dark Triad and Person Perception

2025

Person perception is influenced by both external behaviors and the observer’s internal characteristics, including personality traits. Individuals with dark personality traits, comprising psychopathy, Machiavellianism, and narcissism — collectively known as the dark triad – exhibit manipulative and exploitative tendencies in social contexts. These traits affect how they perceive others and how they are perceived. The Role of Dark Personality Traits in Person PerceptionBlack et al. (2014) explored...
