High Temperature Environments

High temperature environments are habitats in which physical conditions regularly exceed the optimal range for most organisms, providing important settings for studying the limits of life. Organisms that inhabit them, including thermophiles and hyperthermophiles, survive through adaptations that stabilize proteins and nucleic acids, maintain membrane integrity, and support cellular reactions under intense heat. Biological research in these systems reveals how cells regulate metabolism, repair heat-induced damage, and preserve genetic information. These adaptations also support applications in biotechnology, where heat-stable enzymes are used in processes such as molecular biology, industrial biocatalysis, and the development of robust laboratory methods.
