Internodes

Internodes are intervening segments between repeated structural junctions, most commonly the regions of a plant stem between nodes or the myelinated portions of an axon between nodes of Ranvier. In stems, an internode elongates through cell division and expansion, spacing leaves and branches; in neurons, myelin insulates the axon so electrical impulses move rapidly by saltatory conduction from node to node. Measuring internode length helps assess plant growth, architecture, and environmental responses, while studying axonal internodes clarifies nerve development, signal transmission, and demyelinating disease. Thus, internodes link biological structure with transport, communication, and organismal function.

Adventitious shoots can be induced on internodal segments of ipecac without phytohormone treatment. To evaluate phytohormone dynamics during adventitious shoot formation, we measured endogenous auxin and cytokinin in internodal segments by LC-MS/MS.

Potato Virus X-Based MicroRNA Silencing in Potato Plants

Source: Zhao, J., et al. Potato Virus X-Based microRNA Silencing (VbMS) In Potato. J. Vis. Exp. (2020).This video demonstrates the use of Agrobacterium tumefaciens to deliver a Potato Virus X (PVX)-based construct into in vitro-grown potato plants for virus-based microRNA silencing (VbMS). The method enables systemic suppression of a target microRNA, allowing researchers to study its role in plant development through observable phenotypic changes.

In Vivo Electrophysiological Measurement of the Rat Ulnar Nerve with Axonal Excitability Testing
