Laparotomy Procedure

Laparotomy is a surgical procedure that creates an open incision through the abdominal wall to access the organs and tissues within the abdominal cavity. Surgeons make a carefully planned incision, separate or divide tissue layers, examine or treat internal structures, and close the abdominal wall after completing the intervention. The procedure may support diagnosis, emergency management, or treatment of conditions affecting organs such as the intestines, stomach, liver, or reproductive system. In biology and biomedical research, laparotomy also provides controlled access for studying abdominal anatomy, organ function, disease processes, and responses to experimental treatments.
