Leukocytosis

Leukocytosis is an abnormally elevated number of white blood cells in the blood, indicating activation or alteration of the immune and hematopoietic systems. It develops when bone marrow production and release of leukocytes increase, or when cells shift from vessel walls and storage pools into circulation, often in response to infection, inflammation, physiological stress, medications, or abnormal cell growth. In biology and clinical research, leukocytosis is evaluated through complete blood counts and differential analysis to identify changes in neutrophils, lymphocytes, or other leukocyte populations. These findings support disease assessment, treatment monitoring, and investigation of immune and blood disorders.
