Mesocolon

The mesocolon is a double layer of peritoneum that connects parts of the colon to the posterior abdominal wall, helping support and organize the large intestine within the abdominal cavity. Between its peritoneal layers, blood vessels, lymphatic vessels, nerves, and connective tissue reach the colon, while variations in attachment and embryologic fusion influence colonic mobility and the boundaries of adjacent spaces. Understanding the mesocolon is central to abdominal anatomy and informs surgical planning, including preservation of vascular supply during colorectal procedures. Its organization also provides a framework for studying pathways of inflammation, tumor spread, and lymphatic drainage.

Caudal-to-cranial Approach in Laparoscopic Right Hemicolectomy with Complete Mesocolon Excision and D3 Lymph Node Dissection

2026

Laparoscopic surgery is widely used in the treatment of right-sided colon cancer and offers numerous advantages. This paper describes the caudal-to-cranial surgical approach combined with complete mesocolic excision (CME) and D3 lymph node dissection, which may potentially reduce the technical difficulty and appear to be a safe approach.

Generation of Mouse Proximal Colon Loop Model: A Surgical Procedure to Generate Proximal Colon Loop and Measure Intestinal Permeability by Detection of Fluorescent Markers in Serum Following Intraluminal Injection

2025

Robot-assisted natural orifice specimen extraction surgery is a minimally invasive technique that combines robotic precision with natural orifice specimen extraction. A 67-year-old patient successfully underwent the procedure in 290 min, with minimal bleeding and no residual cancer. This approach minimized abdominal trauma, reduced complications, and enabled a quick recovery.
