Nano Manipulator

A nano manipulator is a precision instrument that positions and moves objects at nanometer-scale resolution, enabling researchers to study and control structures too small for conventional tools. In biological applications, it commonly operates with atomic force microscopy, using a sharp cantilever tip, piezoelectric motion, and force feedback to contact, image, or reposition cells, membranes, molecules, and other nanoscale features. This controlled interaction helps characterize surface topography, mechanical properties, adhesion, and molecular interactions under carefully selected conditions. Nano manipulators support research in cell biology, biomaterials, nanomedicine, and tissue engineering by linking nanoscale measurements with targeted physical manipulation.

Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment as a Useful Adjunctive Tool for Pneumonia

Cited by 50 •

2014

Pneumonia is one of the top ten leading causes of death in the U.S. Osteopathic manipulative techniques (OMT) may be utilized as an adjunctive therapy in the treatment of pneumonia to enhance biomechanical and immune function; and ultimately, to reduce hospital stay, duration of antibiotics, incidence of respiratory failure, and mortality. In this video-article, we will review randomized controlled studies on the use of OMT in pneumonia patients, as well as demonstrate specific hands-on...

We present a method for achieving sub-nanometer resolution images with amplitude-modulation (tapping mode) atomic force microscopy in liquid. The method is demonstrated on commercial atomic force microscopes. We explain the rationale behind our choices of parameters and suggest strategies for resolution optimization.

Manipulating an Independent Variable through Embodiment

2023

Source: Laboratories of Gary Lewandowski, Dave Strohmetz, and Natalie Ciarocco—Monmouth University In any experiment, the researcher attempts to manipulate participants in one group to have different thoughts, experiences, or feelings than the other groups in the study. Some manipulations are overt, while others can be quite subtle. Embodiment is a growing research area focused on the theory that subtle physical experiences can unconsciously influence a person’s thoughts. For example if a...
