Silicone Rubber Mounting

Silicone rubber mounting is a technique that uses a flexible, chemically resistant elastomer to secure biological specimens, devices, or experimental components in a stable position. Liquid or uncured silicone conforms to surrounding surfaces and then cures through polymer cross-linking, creating a resilient support that can accommodate movement while maintaining alignment. In biology, this approach can help immobilize samples for imaging, protect delicate interfaces, and hold components in place during repeated handling or exposure to laboratory conditions. Its combination of flexibility, durability, and adaptable molding makes silicone rubber mounting useful in microscopy, experimental apparatus, and the development of biological research tools.

The Rubber Hand Illusion

2023

Source: Laboratory of Jonathan Flombaum—Johns Hopkins University Reaching for objects, walking without hitting obstacles, landing on a chair as you sit (instead of falling to the floor), these and all our physical actions depend on an ability to perceive our own bodies in space, to know where our limbs are relative to one another and relative to the rest of the world. One way that the human brain encodes this information is called proprioception, the brain relies on its own control and feedback...

2013

We demonstrate how an objective measure can be employed in the widely employed rubber hand illusion paradigm. This measure is obtained by modifying the well-established crossmodal congruency task. This task allows the investigation of multisensory processes which are critical for modulations of body representations as in the rubber hand illusion.

Large-scale Recording of Neurons by Movable Silicon Probes in Behaving Rodents
