Surgical Suturing Technique

Surgical suturing technique is the controlled use of needles and suture materials to approximate separated tissue, making it an essential method for wound closure and tissue repair. A needle passes through the tissue edges, and the suture is tensioned and secured with knots or other fastening methods to maintain alignment while healing occurs. Different stitch patterns and materials influence wound strength, tissue compression, fluid drainage, and the risk of irritation or infection. In biology and clinical research, studying suturing supports understanding of tissue regeneration, surgical healing, biomaterial performance, and methods for improving patient outcomes.

Q Suture Technique: A Suturing Technique to Reduce Gap Formation and Increase Tensile Strength in Tendon Repair

2025

In this video, we demonstrate suturing techniques — core suture and Q suture — to repair the foot flexor tendon in an ex vivo porcine model. Q sutures enhance the strength of the core suture in tendon repair and decrease gapping at the tendon repair site.

A Novel Arthroscopic Medial Knot-Tying Suture-Bridge Repair with Rip-Stop Technique for Rotator Cuff Tears

This protocol presents an optimized rotator cuff repair technique that combines the medial knot-tying suture-bridge repair with a rip-stop configuration, designed to enhance cuff healing and minimize the risk of retear.

A Standardized Surgical Technique for Tessier Medial Transnasal Canthopexy

Medial canthopexy allows correction of the position and fixation of the medial canthal tendon. Due to the technical difficulties of this procedure, there is a need for a detailed protocol for educational purposes. Here, we describe a standardized reproducible technique for bilateral medial transnasal canthopexy by an orbitonasal approach.

In this paper, we present an in vitro and in situ protocol to repair a tendon gap of up to 1.5 cm by filling it with engineered collagen graft. This was performed by developing a modified suture technique to take the mechanical load until the graft matures into the host tissue.
