Tissue Manipulation

Tissue manipulation is the controlled handling, modification, or rearrangement of groups of cells and their supporting extracellular matrix to study or alter biological structure and function. In biology, researchers manipulate tissues through dissection, mechanical or enzymatic dissociation, culture, transplantation, or treatment with defined biochemical and physical conditions, allowing cellular behavior and tissue organization to be examined. These approaches support studies of development, regeneration, disease mechanisms, and tissue engineering. By linking tissue structure with cell activity, tissue manipulation helps researchers model biological processes, evaluate potential therapies, and develop strategies for repairing or replacing damaged tissues.

Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment as a Useful Adjunctive Tool for Pneumonia

Cited by 50 •

2014

Pneumonia is one of the top ten leading causes of death in the U.S. Osteopathic manipulative techniques (OMT) may be utilized as an adjunctive therapy in the treatment of pneumonia to enhance biomechanical and immune function; and ultimately, to reduce hospital stay, duration of antibiotics, incidence of respiratory failure, and mortality. In this video-article, we will review randomized controlled studies on the use of OMT in pneumonia patients, as well as demonstrate specific hands-on...

This protocol describes a rod-based approach, combining 3D-printing and soft lithography techniques for fabricating the soft gripper devices. This approach eliminates the need for an external air source by incorporating a chamber component and reduces the chance of occlusion during the sealing process, particularly for miniaturized pneumatic channels.

Manipulating an Independent Variable through Embodiment

2023

Source: Laboratories of Gary Lewandowski, Dave Strohmetz, and Natalie Ciarocco—Monmouth University In any experiment, the researcher attempts to manipulate participants in one group to have different thoughts, experiences, or feelings than the other groups in the study. Some manipulations are overt, while others can be quite subtle. Embodiment is a growing research area focused on the theory that subtle physical experiences can unconsciously influence a person’s thoughts. For example if a...
