Eye Morphology Scoring

Eye morphology scoring is a structured method for evaluating the size, shape, organization, and visible defects of the developing eye, making complex anatomical changes easier to compare across specimens. In developmental biology, researchers examine defined morphological features and assign standardized scores according to the presence or severity of abnormalities, converting visual observations into reproducible data. This approach supports analysis of normal eye formation, developmental timing, and the effects of genetic changes or experimental treatments. By providing a consistent phenotypic readout, eye morphology scoring helps link cellular and molecular mechanisms to tissue-level outcomes and strengthens comparisons among developmental studies.

The present protocol describes the cross-sectional research performed on 40 healthy subjects between the ages of 20 and 45 to assess the prevalence of dry eye syndrome (DES) during COVID-19. The OSDI survey evaluated DES, and the advanced ophthalmic systems (AOS) software was used to assess limbal redness.

Trabecular Meshwork Response to Pressure Elevation in the Living Human Eye

Trabecular meshwork (TM) migration into Schlemm’s canal space can be induced by acute pressure elevation by ophthalmodynamometer, and observed by spectral domain optical coherence tomography. The goal of this method is to quantify the morphometric response of the living outflow tract to acute pressure elevation in living tissues in situ.

Introduction to z Scores

2023

A z score (or standardized value) is measured in units of the standard deviation. It tells you how many standard deviations the value x is above (to the right of) or below (to the left of) the mean, μ. Values of x that are larger than the mean have positive z scores, and values of x that are smaller than the mean have negative z scores. If x equals the mean, then x has a zero z score. It is important to note that the mean of the z scores is zero, and the standard deviation is one. z scores help...

z scores are the standardized values obtained after converting a normal distribution into a standard normal distribution. A z score is measured in units of the standard deviation. The z score tells you how many standard deviations the value x is above (to the right of) or below (to the left of) the mean, μ. Values of x that are larger than the mean have positive z scores, and values of x that are smaller than the mean have negative z scores. If x equals the mean, then x has a z score of zero.
