3d Visualization Control

3D visualization control is the set of methods used to manipulate how three-dimensional models, data, and simulations are viewed and interpreted, making complex engineering information easier to analyze. It works by controlling parameters such as camera position, viewing angle, zoom, object orientation, visibility, lighting, and rendering style, often through interactive interfaces or programmed commands. Engineers use these controls to inspect components, evaluate spatial relationships, communicate design intent, and identify errors in computer-aided design, simulation, manufacturing, and robotics. Effective visualization control supports faster decision-making, clearer collaboration, and more reliable interpretation of digital models.

We used synchrotron X-ray tomography at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF) to non-invasively produce 3D tomographic datasets with a pixel-resolution of 0.7µm. Using volume rendering software, this allows the reconstruction of internal structures in their natural state without the artefacts produced by histological sectioning.
