Amplitude Frequency Phase

Amplitude, frequency, and phase are fundamental properties used to describe periodic signals, especially sinusoidal waveforms, in engineering and the physical sciences. In a signal such as x(t) = A sin(2πft + φ), amplitude A sets the peak magnitude, frequency f determines how rapidly the waveform repeats, and phase φ specifies its timing or positional offset relative to a reference. Together, these parameters characterize signal behavior and relationships between waves. Engineers use them to analyze circuits, vibration, acoustics, control systems, and communications, enabling tasks such as signal reconstruction, synchronization, modulation, and interference analysis.

We show how to encode the complex field of laser beams by using a single phase element. A common-path interferometer is employed to mix the phase information displayed into a phase-only spatial light modulator to finally retrieve the desired complex field pattern at the output of an optical imaging system.

Single Phase Inverter

Source: Ali Bazzi, Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Connecticut, Storrs, CT. DC power is unidirectional and flows in one direction, whereas, AC current alternates directions at a frequency of 50-60 Hz. Most common electronic devices are designed to run off of AC power; therefore an input DC source must be inverted to AC. Inverters convert DC voltage to AC through switching action that repeatedly flips the polarity of the input DC source at the output or load side for part of...

Time and frequency -Domain Interpretation of Phase-lead Control

2024

Phase-lead controllers are commonly used in various control systems to enhance response speed and stability. Adjusting the brightness on a television screen offers a practical example of phase-lead control. When contrast is enhanced, a phase-lead controller is employed. Mathematically, phase-lead control is identified when the first parameter is smaller than the second. The design of phase-lead control involves the strategic placement of poles and zeros to balance steady-state error and system...

Time and frequency -Domain Interpretation of Phase-lag Control

Phase-lag controllers are widely used in control systems to improve stability and reduce steady-state errors. A dimmer switch controlling the brightness of a light bulb serves as a practical example of phase-lag control, gradually adjusting the bulb's brightness. Mathematically, phase-lag control or low-pass filtering is represented when the factor 'a' is less than 1. Phase-lag controllers do not place a pole at zero, but instead influence the steady-state error by amplifying any finite,...

Pulse amplitude and quality

Pulse amplitude is a crucial indicator of cardiac health because it provides valuable insights into the strength of left ventricular contractions and the overall uniformity of blood circulation within the vasculature. The strength of the pulse is directly related to the force with which the heart contracts and the volume of blood being pumped. A weak or absent pulse may indicate reduced cardiac output or poor left ventricular contraction, which can be signs of cardiovascular dysfunction or...
