Coil Component

A coil component is an electrical or electromagnetic device formed by winding conductive wire into loops, enabling controlled interaction between electric current and magnetic fields. When current passes through the winding, it generates a magnetic field and stores energy; changes in current induce a countervoltage, a behavior determined by inductance, core material, number of turns, and winding geometry. In engineering, coil components serve as inductors for filtering and energy conversion, windings in transformers and motors, and solenoids that produce mechanical motion. Their design helps regulate power, reduce electrical noise, transfer energy, and control electromagnetic actuation across electronic and industrial systems.

Source: Ali Bazzi, Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Connecticut, Storrs, CT. The objective of this experiment is to achieve hands-on experience with different magnetic components from design and material perspectives. This experiment covers B-H curves of magnetic material and inductor design through identifying unknown design factors. The B-H curve of a magnetic element, such as an inductor or transformer, is a characteristic of the magnetic material forming the core around...

The light microscope is a basic tool for the cell biologist, who should have a thorough understanding of how it works, how it should be aligned for different applications, and how it should be maintained as required to obtain maximum image-forming capacity and resolution. The components of the microscope are described in detail here.
