Condition Assessment

Condition assessment is the systematic evaluation of an engineering asset’s current state, performance, and remaining serviceability to support safe and reliable operation. It combines inspections, non-destructive testing, sensor data, and performance measurements with comparisons to design requirements, historical baselines, or acceptance criteria to identify defects, deterioration, and abnormal behavior. In engineering, condition assessment supports structural health monitoring, machinery maintenance, infrastructure management, and asset integrity programs. Its findings help prioritize repairs, schedule preventive or predictive maintenance, reduce unexpected failures, and guide decisions about continued operation, rehabilitation, replacement, and lifecycle cost.

Fear Conditioning

2023

Fear Conditioning is a type of learning in which an association is established between a negative unpleasant event and a harmless stimulus. This leads to a fear of the harmless stimulus. This process is largely mediated by the amygdala, which is a brain region involved in emotions and stress reactions. Fear conditioning can be utilized in several ways to understand different aspects of learning and memory. This video presents an overview of the principles behind fear conditioning, discusses the...

2017

Trace eyeblink classical conditioning (ECC) was used to assess hippocampal-dependent associative learning in adult rats that were administered a high concentration (11.9% v/v) of alcohol during early neonatal brain development. In general, ECC procedures are sound diagnostic tools for detecting brain dysfunction across many psychological and biomedical settings.
